What are virtual classes?

Virtual group fitness classes are led by a virtual instructor projected onto a wall or screen in our group fitness or cycle studios. It's important to choose a class that aligns with your fitness level and goals. The classes are pre-programmed, and you can view the current timetable on our website.

Virtual classes enhance our timetable by offering:

  • Convenience and flexibility: Perfect for fitting in a workout during a busy schedule.
  • A quiet space for introverts: Ideal for those who prefer a workout without a live instructor in a quieter environment.
  • Variety: Access to different styles of cycle classes. 
  • Off-peak options: Classes are scheduled during times when live classes are typically not offered.

 

LES MILLS SPRINT™ (High intensity)

A transformative high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout, using an indoor bike to achieve fast results. It’s a short, intense style of training that pushes your physical and mental limits.

THE TRIP™ (Moderate - High intensity)

An immersive cycling workout that will elevate your heart rate and sensory experience. You will be transported to the future of fitness through digitally created worlds and take your motivation to the next level.

RPM™ (Moderate - High intensity)

An indoor cycling workout that will shift your cardio fitness to a higher gear. Find your rhythm in the music, set your own resistance level, and hit an endorphin high.

*Ages 16+ for lone participants. 13-15 year olds must be accompanied by a participating supervisor aged 16+ years old.
*All participants must bring a towel.


Virtual Group Fitness FAQs

How much do classes cost?

Virtual classes are free for Group Fitness and Complete members as part of your Active Monash membership. For other passes, please click here for more information. 

When are classes scheduled?

Virtual classes are offered during times that are not typically occupied by live classes, mainly in the middle of the day. You can find suitable classes by checking the Group Fitness timetable on our website. 

How do I book into a class?

Bookings are made through the Active Monash App, or My Account online. The process is the same as our live classes.

What should I bring?

Please bring a water bottle and towel to all classes. Wear comfortable workout clothes and appropriate closed-toe footwear.

What happens when I arrive?

Arrive at least 5 minutes before the class starts. Be ready with your towel and water bottle. Ensure you have enough space and remove any tripping hazards. Please refer to the poster on the wall to set up your bike.

We also advise to familiarise yourself with the light and fan switches and exit points before starting the class.

Can I participate if I haven’t done a live class before?

Yes, however we encourage you to attend a live class first for the best experience in virtual classes.

Is participant safety monitored?

Virtual classes are unsupervised. Participation is at your own risk, so please choose classes that match your fitness level.

Can I join a class after it has started?

We recommend arriving within 5 minutes of the start time to allow for a proper warmup. Please avoid arriving late to minimise disruptions to other participants.

Can I adjust the fans and lights in the room?

Yes, you can adjust the fans using the remote controls found on the walls under each fan. Light switches are located on the wall next to the door. Please turn off the fans when leaving the room.

What should I do after the workout?

After the workout, please use the wipes available in the studios to clean the cycles or any equipment used. Ensure that all equipment is returned to its original place, turn off the fans, and collect all personal belongings. If anything in the studio needs attention, report it to the Customer Service team as you leave.

How old do I need to be to attend a virtual class?

Ages 16+ for lone participants. 13-15 year olds must be accompanied by a participating supervisor aged 16+ years old.

What do I do if the virtual class doesn’t start?

If the virtual class does not start on time, please inform the Customer Service team at reception.

What happens in an emergency?

In the event of a centre-wide evacuation, make your way to the nearest exist and follow staff instructions.

If you feel unwell during a workout, stop immediately and alert a staff member.


Participant instructions for successful attendance of a virtual class

Guidelines and best practices for members to participate safely in virtual classes without a live instructor present. 

  1. Selecting a class: Classes are pre-programmed. Participants will choose scheduled virtual classes from the group fitness timetable as per normal scheduling. Classes will include THE TRIP™, LES MILLS SPRINT™ and RPM™. Participants to ensure the class chosen aligns with your fitness level and goals.

  2. Preparing for the class: Booking virtual class are completed the same way as bookings into other classes. Book into desired class through the Active Monash App, via My Account online, calling the centre, or simply turn up to the centre and book into class through the group fitness kiosk. Make sure you bring any necessary equipment, i.e. towel and water bottles. Collect ticket for your virtual class the same as you normally would for other class types, bookings are essential. 

  3. Classes are prescheduled: You can choose from the range of programs as timetabled. 

  4. On arriving for your virtual class: Make your way to studio one or cycle studio depending on the class you’re attending. Place your class ticket into the box labelled for virtual class tickets. Arrive on time and allow enough time to be ready to go at the start of the scheduled class. Once the warmup is finished you are not permitted to join the class.  

  5. Entry: Your membership band will allow you to scan into the studios. 

  6. Setting Up: When setting up for class make sure you have enough room around you, your belongings should be kept well away from you and others so there is adequate exercise space and there is nothing around you to act as a tripping hazard. 

  7. Engaging in the class: Follow the workout routine and exercises demonstrated to the best of your ability. Listen to the cues and instructions provided and adjust your form and intensity as needed.  

  8. Listen to your body: If you feel lightheaded, unwell, or any unusual aches or pains stop immediately. If you are unsure whether the class is appropriate for you, we recommend medical clearance before participating in an exercise program. 

  9. Working at own risk: Participation in virtual group fitness classes are done at participants own risk.

  10. Post Class: Take time to cool down and stretch. Pack up any equipment that was used in the workout. If you have any feedback regarding the studios or equipment, please pass on to the Customer Service team at reception as you leave. 

By following these guidelines, you can effectively participate in virtual classes and enjoy a rewarding workout experience in your own time.
