Embracing Wellness: Active Adult and Active link Chair-Based Classes a
Published on 07 October 2025
Active Monash recognises the demand for variety in intensity, and needs of older adults and has created a wide range of Group Fitness classes to suit all. The needs of an Active 60-year-old may be quite different to someone that experiences chronic conditions or who may be more susceptible to falls due to illness or fragility or is more mature and very new to exercise. To address this, we have created a range of class types to suit various needs including our Strong4life, Gold and Activelink programs.
Strong4life and Gold programs
Strong4life and Gold programs encourage participants to engage in more dynamic movements. There is an expectation that participants can move to the floor, and the classes move at a steady pace. These classes focus on promoting cardiovascular health, flexibility, and strength through low-impact exercises that can be adapted to suit each participant’s ability level.
Classes include:
- Strong4life
- Strongman4life
- Stretch4life
- Yoga4life
- Cardio4life
- Strong4life Circuit
- Pilates Gold
- Zumba Gold
- X-Training Gold
- Reformer Gold
- Landmarc (strength based and at Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre only)
Don’t forget the wide range of Aqua classes also suitable for Active Adults.
Activelink
Our Popular Activelink Programs are chair-based fitness class. Designed for individuals with varying mobility levels, this class provides a safe and supportive environment for participants to engage in seated and standing exercises. These gentle movements focus on improving strength, flexibility, and balance while accommodating individual needs. It’s an excellent choice for those with chronic conditions or for anyone looking to exercise in a gentler class format with a slower pace.
Classes include:
- Activelink (chair-based strength)
- Activelink Hydro (Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre - Warm Water Pool)
- Activelink Circuit (Oakleigh Recreation Centre only)
- Activelink Pilates (no floor work, seated and standing only)
- Activelink Dance (movement in chair)
All programs foster a sense of community, allowing participants to connect with others who share similar goals. At our centre, we aim to create a welcoming space where older adults can embrace their fitness journey, improve their health, and enjoy social interaction and most importantly Participate Your Way.
Whether you prefer the gentle approach of chair-based exercises or are looking for more active sessions, we invite you to join us and explore the benefits of staying active at any age.
