Active Monash is excited to announce it will be hosting its second annual Pride Night to promote inclusive and accessible physical activity for the LGBTIQA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual and other sexually or gender diverse) community and their allies.

Pride Night aligns with our strategic plan to ensure the City of Monash and Active Monash is a place where inclusion, diversity and uniqueness are welcomed, respected and celebrated. The night will see Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre open its doors to all to celebrate PRIDE! Everyone is invited to come and experience our facilities in a friendly and inclusive environment.

Active Monash is committed to providing a safe and social environment where LGBTIQA+ community members can access health and fitness services to Participate Your Way.

This year many of the Active Monash team have completed additional LGBTIQA+ training. Pride Night - Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we hosting Pride Night?

We want to open the doors of the centre and celebrate the LGBTIQA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual and other sexually or gender diverse) community within City of Monash. While we welcome the community every day, we want to invite those who may not feel comfortable/safe attending the centre in our standard hours to come and see the space, try the facilities, and talk to our team about how you can Participate Your Way every day of the year.

Who can attend?

This event is to celebrate our wonderful LGBTIQA+ community and we welcome LGBTIQA+ people as well as their friends and allies to attend and join in the fun!

Are children welcome?

Children of rainbow families and LGBTIQA+ children are welcome to the event.  There are policies in place for all patrons of the facility to have a safe and enjoyable time. They include our Watch Around Water policy , as well as age limits for facilities like the Warm Water Exercise Pool, Spa, Sauna, Steam Room, and the Health Club.

What amenities will be available on the night?

Our change facilities at Active Monash include all gender and male and female change rooms (we support our members and guest to access the change facility that they identify with) all with access to sanitary bins.

We also have accessible change rooms, family change rooms and our all gender change village – consisting of rinse showers, cubicles, and male / female group change rooms.

Why is inclusion important at Active Monash?

Our vision at Active Monash is 'Participate Your Way'.

We want to provide a service to our community year-round that means anyone can access our centres to be the best version of themselves.

We believe in removing barriers to support the highly diverse municipality to get active, connect with community and live a healthy life, both physically and mentally.

Pride Night is one of our ways of being inclusive by providing a safe space for the LGBTIQA+ community, their families and anyone who identifies as an ally.

Please ensure if you are participating in any health club classes or using the gym, you are wearing appropriate gym clothing (closed toe shoes, comfortable clothing and bring a gym towel and water bottle). Will this event be culturally safe?

Every effort is being made to ensure safety of all participants throughout the event. We are providing training to our team to best support participant needs, as well as clear conditions of entry. If you have any concerns, please speak to the team who will do their best to assist you.
